This document explains how Brij helps brands comply with SMS marketing regulations and how SMS marketing consent captured in Brij experiences can be passed to a brand’s SMS marketing platform in a compliant and secure manner.
1. A2P 10DLC Registration for Rebate Campaigns
Every SMS rebate campaign powered by Brij is submitted through Twilio’s A2P 10DLC registration process to ensure compliance with U.S. SMS marketing requirements.
What Brij Registers With Twilio
As part of A2P 10DLC registration, Brij submits a detailed application that includes:
- A detailed description of the messaging campaign
- A clear outline of how end users opt in
- Representative sample messages for the campaign
- The selected A2P use case
- A sample landing page design showing how users opt in
- The legal opt-in language used for compliance
- Auto-reply messages and keywords for opt-ins, opt-outs, and help requests
Twilio uses a third‑party compliance auditor to review the application to verify that the campaign meets all SMS regulatory standards.
2. Capturing SMS Marketing Consent in Brij Experiences
When creating a registration, signup, or rebate page, brands can enable Brij’s SMS marketing consent checkbox. This ensures clear, compliant notice and documentation of consent.
Standard Legal Consent Text Used in Brij
“By entering your phone number or by sending us a text message with keyword 'start' you agree to receive recurring automated promotional and personalized marketing text messages (e.g. special offers) from brij-demo at the cell number used when signing up. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Reply HELP for help and STOP to cancel. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. View Terms & Privacy.”
- The Terms & Privacy text is hyperlinked to a custom Terms & Privacy Page page where customers can view terms and privacy policies for both Brij and the brand.
3. How Brij Stores and Passes Consent
When a user provides consent within a Brij‑powered rebate or signup flow, Brij records the consent for compliance and reporting purposes.
What Brij Records
For every SMS opt‑in, Brij stores:
- Phone number
- SMS Single opt‑in consent — captured when the user submits the webform with corresponding legal text
- SMS Double opt‑in confirmation (only applicable for SMS-based Rebates) — recorded only when a customer texts Brij a confirmation keyword such as “start” or when they text a receipt as part of the rebate flow. NOTE: Double opt-in can NOT be sent to third party SMS marketing platforms due to compliance purposes. Double consent must be captured again if used for SMS marketing.
- Legal text shown at the moment of consent
- IP address and IP‑based general location
- Timestamp and metadata
Passing SMS Marketing Consent to CRMs
- Brij CAN be configured to send single opt‑in consent to common SMS marketing platforms when a customer submits a webform that captures SMS marketing consent.
- Brij CANNOT pass double opt‑in consent to external SMS platforms.
- This is because double opt‑in is phone‑number‑specific.
- Brands’ SMS tools (e.g., Attentive, Klaviyo, Postscript) should be configured to send double opt-in messages from their own phone numbers to capture double-consent again for that phone number ****(ie. “Reply YES to confirm you want to receive text updates. Msg & data rates may apply).
Summary: How Brij Ensures SMS Compliance
Brij helps brands maintain compliance by:
- Submitting every SMS rebate campaign through Twilio’s A2P 10DLC registration and compliance review.
- Presenting clear, legally compliant opt‑in disclosure text during signup.
- Recording and storing consent logs including legal text, timestamps, and IP metadata.
- Passing single opt‑in to brand CRMs while ensuring brands capture double opt‑in directly on their SMS platform.
