This article shows the physical locations where you can put your Brij QR codes. It also shows examples from Brij brands. When you use more than one location, more shoppers find your experience.
Use Cases
- Get more scans: Each new location gives shoppers one more chance to find your experience.
- Reach every buyer: A QR code in the box reaches shoppers who buy at retail stores and on marketplaces. You do not usually get data from these buyers.
- Match the moment: Put the code where the shopper needs it. For example, put setup help in the manual and put an offer at the shelf.
Before You Start
These rules apply to all physical locations:
- Use a clear call to action (CTA). Tell the shopper what they get. For example: "Scan to register your warranty" or "Scan for $5 back."
- Use a large code. Make the code 0.75 in x 0.75 in or larger.
- Use strong contrast. Put a dark code on a light background.
- Use few words. Too much text around the code decreases scans.
- Keep the code away from the barcode. Shoppers think that a code near the barcode is not for them.
- Test before you print. Scan a printed sample with more than one phone.

In-Pack Locations
These locations are on or in the product that the shopper takes home. They reach every buyer on every sales channel: your website, retail stores, and marketplaces.
1. On the Box
Print the code on the outer packaging or the inner packaging.
- Put the code on the front of the box if possible. The front gets more attention than the back.
- Put the code on the inner lid or inner flap to show it when the shopper opens the box.
Examples: Babiators puts a code with a clear CTA on the box. Tushy puts a code on the inner packaging.
2. On the Product
Print the code directly on the product or on the product label. The code stays with the product after the shopper discards the box. This location is good for setup help, reorders, and warranty claims at a later time.
Example: Dermazen puts a QR code on the product, on the packaging, and on an insert in every order.
3. Product Insert
Put a printed card in the box. Inserts often get more scans than codes on the packaging. Inserts are a good choice for Amazon, TikTok Shop, and other marketplace orders.
Examples:
- Brunt Workwear: An insert offers a free gift for product registration.
- Canopy: An insert is on top when the shopper opens the box.
- Caraway: An insert asks the shopper to activate their warranty.
- Momofuku: An insert gives recipes and cooking instructions.
- Quip: A card in the product tray gives a value for refill reorders.
- Plant People: An insert is in all TikTok Shop orders.
4. Sticker
Put a QR code sticker on the box or on the product. Stickers are a fast and low-cost way to add a code to inventory that you have now. You do not have to print new packaging.
Examples: Tushy uses a sticker for how-to videos. Chamberlain Coffee uses a sticker for a sweepstakes. Caraway uses a sticker for warranty activation.
5. Manual or Quick Start Guide
Print the code on the manual, the quick start guide, or the setup card. Shoppers open these when they set up the product. Use this location for setup guides, product registration, and warranty information.
Examples: Black Diamond puts a "Start Here" code on its quick guide in two languages. Tushy puts a code in its product manual. Lalo uses codes to give access to its user manuals.
In-Store Locations
These locations reach shoppers at the shelf, before or after they buy. They work well for rebates and sweepstakes. Make sure that you obey the rules of each retailer for in-store materials.
- Shelf talkers and shelf wobblers: Put the offer and the code at the shelf edge.
- Endcaps and floor displays: Chamberlain Coffee used endcaps and floor displays with tear-off QR codes.
- Signs at the point of sale: Use a sign near the product or near the register.
- Fridge and cooler displays: Owyn put QR codes on retail fridges in Wegmans stores.
- In-store screens: Sacheu Beauty used a video in Ulta stores to show where to shop and how to get the rebate.
- In-store demos and sampling: Plant People used QR codes at in-store demos to increase sales during sampling.
Direct Mail
Put the code on a postcard or a mailer that you send to customers.
Examples: iwi life sent a mailer with a QR code to subscribers who cancelled, to win them back. RV Lock and Newton Baby replaced their paper registration postcards with Brij QR codes.
Out-of-Home (OOH) and Event Locations
These locations reach new shoppers outside of the store.
- Billboards and screens: Dagne Dover showed QR codes on screens in major US airports.
- Street and sidewalk stickers: Nori used sidewalk stickers in New York City.
- Pop-up shops and window vinyls: Jolie used a QR code at a pop-up shop in New York City. PlusOne used window vinyls for sign-ups and free product.
- Events, sampling, and trade shows: Turtlebox Audio used QR codes at stadiums and festivals. Caraway used a shoppable experience at events. Other brands use QR codes at sampling tables and trade shows.
Tips & Notes
Note: To see which location gets the most scans, use a different variant experience for each location. Refer to How to Add a Variant Experience.
Note: Also share a Brij short link on digital channels such as email, SMS, social media, and ads. If you use only one channel, you reach fewer shoppers.
FAQ
Which location gets the most scans?
Inserts and codes on the front of the box usually get more attention than codes on the back panel. The best results come from more than one location.
Can I use the same QR code in more than one location?
Yes. But if you use the same code in all locations, you cannot see which location caused the scans. Use a variant experience for each location to track them separately.
Which file format do I use for print?
Use the SVG file for print. SVG files stay sharp at all sizes. Use the PNG file for digital use. Refer to How to Download Your QR Codes.
My packaging is already printed. What can I do?
Add a sticker or an insert. If your packaging has a dynamic QR code from a different platform, you can redirect it to Brij. Refer to Redirect Existing QR Codes.
Can I change the experience after I print the code?
Yes. You can edit the experience in Brij at any time. The printed code does not change.
